Reading Away Preview: Thin Addick squad failing make its mark #CAFC

Charlton play Reading this weekend in the second in a sequence of tricky away fixtures

Although still unbeaten at home Charlton are struggling to get substantial points on the Board, The Addicks pulled back two goals in the week away at Leeds to get another draw, some fans could perhaps be forgiven for  getting a bit frustrated at how close Charlton are to being a good side.

Although hard to beat Chartlon just don't seem to have that little bit extra in the fairly thin squad to get them over the line in a lot of matches resulting in a large amount of draws, despite a positive start to the season.

Team news

The match on Tuesday saw Charlton reduced to ten men when welsh full back Rhoys Wiggins fractured a bone in his foot.

In other team news Michael Morrison not able to get much first time football departed this week for Birmingham on loan, and was replaced by a loan player American Oguchi Onyewu. Also coming in was loan midfielder Arsenal fringe player Francis Coquelin, with some suggesting  this young prospect is more of a loan to buy, than just a stop gap.

Bob Peeters does seem to recognise the shortfall up front, but it seems likely there will be no movement until the January window - a period which proves highly challenging for Charlton year after year. Positive news at the moment however is a return to fitness and form of both Johan Gudmundson and Igor Vetokele.

Charlton with 25 points so far are 3 points off Wolves in sixth, and 6 points off Bournemouth in 1st place. In the other direction they are 9 points off the nearest relegation spot occupied by Birmingham on 15. Reading are 13th and 4 points behind Charlton.

The Royals have a goal difference of -4 compared to Charlton's +1. They've lost 7 won 6 and drawn 3, but their home form seems good. Top scorers are Simon Cox on 7 and Glen Murray on 5, with Charlton's Vetokele on 7, and Buyens on 3.

It's looking like another draw, but if the Addicks can get a couple of goals first, who knows?
