After a winter break we are once again monitoring the network clubs as we enter the business end of the season. Here are the results for the week ending 8.March
Standard de Liege, Belgium
Jupiler Pro (1st) League
Mechelen - Standard: 1-0. Att: 11,200
The poster “Mountsfield Park” on Charlton Life: Standard Liege lost 1-0 this evening, but I think they're safely into the play-offs now, because Charleroi also lost and can't catch them, with 1 game to go. (That's the play-offs for the league title and Champions League places.) At the moment, Standard are 5th, 8 pts behind Bruges and would start the 10-game play-offs with a 4 pt deficit to Bruges. It was also Riga's first defeat since his return to Standard.
Agrupación Deportiva Alcorcón, Spain
Segunda (2nd) Division
Alcorcon – Recreativo Huelva: 1-1 Att. 1,924
Alcorcon took the lead but suffered a red card and conceded to a team in the relegation zone. Now 13th and playoffs look very unlikely
Újpest FC, Hungary
NB 1 (1st Division)
Debrecen - Ujpest: 0-0. Att. 5,014
From "Ujpest Lad"....
Our second game of the spring season was against actual champions Debrecen. We predicted a heavy loss after Debrecen had several games unbeaten.
Debrecen started with heavy attacks, but however thanks to an extraordinary performance from Újpest-grown Róbert Litauszki we managed to survive this era without conceding.
After around 20mins we started to pick up the pace of the game, had a couple chances, mostly lead by Asmir Suljic and Loic Nego.
Unfortunately we could not score.
The picture of the game did not change a lot until the end of the game: several chances created by Debrecen, but missed all of them.
We had great performances from formerly mentioned Róbert Litauszki, newly signed Dávid Hudák, Loic Nego (included in the team of the week) and Asmir Suljic.
We even had an open goal chance at the end missed by unproven player Filip Stanisavljevic.
The game ended with 0-0 meaning Újpest FC is still having the lowest scoring avg games all around the division and only scoring 16 goals in 19 games.
This was the 6th consecutive away game of the team without winning. Still, this result is considered as a good one - having all the things around the team known. A couple of years ago, this would have been considered as a very bad result...
The melancholy continues.

Sint - Truidense VV, Belgium
Belgian Division 2
STVV – Woluwe-Zavantem: 1-0. Att. n/a
A 3rd minute goal from PP settled it against the bottom club. STVV are now 10 points clear with six games left, and the title is within their grasp.
FC Carl Zeiss Jena, Germany
Regionalliga Nordost
Jena – Union Berlin “B”: 3-0. Att. 4,981
Reader, your reporter was there to witness a three goal blitz in 9 minutes early in the second half, in front of FCC’s best crowd of the season. They are 7 points behind leaders Magdeburg – who do visit Jena in May.
