1966 World Cup Final to be replayed

On Saturday 30th July it will be exactly fifty years since the plucky German national football team were robbed of a well-deserved triumph in the World Cup Final at Wembley by a self-important and attention seeking "Russian" linesman.

An opportunity has arisen for this injustice at last to be rectified. A team from SC Altenrheine organised by Charlton Life's "German Addick" will be playing a fixture at Eltham Town Football Club  to mark the golden anniversary of the international travesty which was Wembley '66. The team will play "a local team" made up of current and former players of Bexley Sports, Bexley FC and Erith 147.

Manager of the "local team" Ken Sinyard would like to extend a warm invitation to all football lovers who would like to watch or PLAY in the game.  He said "the standard is decent as most of the players are from the Kent Premier League and aged 25-28. I am arranging a training session to be held the week before the game and potential players should contact me on 07805 215798."

The game kicks off at 6pm. There is ample parking and there are two bars.  The venue is Eltham Town FC, 176 Footscray Rd, SE9 2TD

The guy third from the right in the scruffy jeans is unlikely to play but there may be special guests attending. There will also be a raffle or auction of one of his Charlton team shirts.

Eltham uber alles!
