Having beaten the team at the top of the league away from home on Tuesday Charlton now take on the joint-bottom team at The Valley on Saturday.

It was a tremendous performance of skill and endurance at Fratton Park marred only by the sight of four players - Taylor, Grant, Marshall and Bielik injured and likely to be unavailable for this weekend. It would be painful if the endeavour of toppling Portsmouth meant that we struggled to see off AFC Wimbledon.

Wimbledon began the season brightly with away wins at Fleetwood and Gillingham and a creditable draw at Barnsley. It all went wrong in October however when they lost all six league games to an aggregate of 1-10. The losing streak was extended to eight games by early November losses to Shrewsbury and Doncaster and, at that point, the club decided it was time for manager Neil Ardley to go. He had been the third longest serving manager in the League (appointed October 2012) and he was held in high regard at the club. He has already found a new job at Notts County.

His replacement Wally Downes is a link with the Crazy Gang past and his appointment was a popular one with supporters. His first match in charge (last Saturday) saw his team come from behind to secure a 1-1 home draw with Rochdale. We're not sure whether that amounts to new manager bounce or not. Either way, he would appear to have a hard job on his hands to avoid the club being relegated for the first time in its history.

Although Charlton went to Fratton Park on Tuesday with a highly impressive recent history of success (now seven wins in the last eight games), the same cannot be said for our record against AFCW. We have played them five times - losing three, drawing one, and only coming out on top once (last October 1-0 courtesy of a Ricky Holmes goal).  We should be confident this weekend but much depends on who is fit enough to play. The absence of both Grant and Taylor would make a real dent in our attacking force. Hackett-Fairchild and Ajose did not look impressive in the FA Cup defeat to Doncaster.

However, Wimbledon's top scorer is Joe Pigott with seven and we would be disappointed if our defence could not keep him quiet. A  scrappy 1-0 win would be sufficient, followed by another week to nurse the injuries before taking on Gillingham.
