As the Women's World Cup gets underway in France this BBC article recalls the England team that contested the 1971 competition in front of a crowd of ninety thousand spectators in The Azteca Stadium in Mexico.

On Boxing Day 1920 fifty three thousand had watched a women's match played at Goodison Park to raise funds for First World War charities. But when the chaps came home from war the women's game was to be banned for nearly fifty years.
