Charlton offer travel to Charlton and Barnsley fans in ‘unprecedented’ move

Charlton today offered free coaches to Charlton and Barnsley fans who were victims of the bad weather for the recently postponed fixture at the Valley

 

The late postponement of the match caused many fans a great deal of inconvenience, and prompted both Barnsley FC and Barnsley Supporters' Trust to complain. Charlton fans also made representations to CAFC along with a proposal from the Charlton Supporters' Trust and Fans Forum on how things might be improved.

Incoming non-executive CAFC Chairman and former owner Richard Murray's intervention on behalf of fans has led to what we believe as well as an apology have made what may be an unprecedented offer of  generosity to help assist opposition as well as home fans, to make to mitigate the costs of a rearranged fixture. It is believed this will include over 100 Barnsley fans who had booked advance tickets to the scheduled match at The Valley on January 11th.

The South London club continued the positive tone of its new era after responding well to Charlton fans suggestions. This we (CAS Trust) hope will also continue in the next week or so with a meeting between the new Chairman and CAS Trust/ Fans Forum.Whether the rearranged fixture is a Saturday or a midweek fixture will obviously have an impact though, and of course there are CAFC fans who may have been inconvenienced who cannot take advantage of these offers - fans can write to us secretary@castrust.org or the club direct on this if you wish.

A statement from CAFC today said

"The club has also offered  coach travel to Barnsley supporters by supporting the cost of a coach for the  Barnsley FC official travel club and a coach for other supporters via the  Courthouse Reds Supporters Club.

Two coaches will depart from  south Yorkshire on the new date, which is yet to be confirmed and can  accommodate return travel for approximately 100 fans. Tykes fans should contact  their club’s ticket office to enquire about reserving their spot on one of the  coaches. The Courthouse Reds will make their own arrangements for  members. "

We will be trying to get a response from Barnsley fans shortly.
