After a rip roaring few weeks, and a holiday (for me), our preview and report service is now back online.
The Addicks continue their on the road exploits with a visit to the 'Cardiff Red birds' recently new ground - the Cardiff City Stadium.
The nearly promoted leaders are close to untouchable on 83 points it seems, needing a draw to secure promotion, meanwhile for the 'Charlton Red Birds' (57pts) the playoffs seem to be just out of reach barring a minor miracle. Fresh from routing the in trouble Barnsley (48pts) 0-6 which also saw two Oakwell men sent off albeit after their defences had been breached 4 times, amazingly the Addicks are still yet to secure mathematical safety. Only Bristol City so far confirmed as making a downward exit from the Championship this year which has remained an unbelievably tight division all season.
Unless my Maths are found wanting which they sometimes are - should Charlton exceed Barnsley who entertain Derby in points achieved tomorrow, safety could be secure with 9 points
available, and more than that separating them. Equal points would mean goal difference came into play.
For the dreamers among you, back to the other end where Leicester City play Bolton Wanderers in a play off six pointer, a fixture which will further dampen the Addicks chances of sneaking above mid table. While Middlesbrough versus Nottingham Forest could also throw further water on the fire. Next are Brighton who play away at Peterborough, need I go on.?
Yes, sadly Charlton fans will need to be content with safety (if it happens), and forget about promotion this year, but all credit to CP for putting on a later burst of form seemingly provided by the back in favour Andy Hughes who has single handedly it seems firmed up the midfield, and been to quote an often used cliche, like a new signing, and a good one at least for now.
