Addicks now Safe? Cardiff Promoted!

tan-2709584Last night saw Chris Powell's team show once more their impressive away form with a 0-0 draw against title certs Cardiff. Although the impressive captain Johnnie Jackson came close with a free kick tipped onto the post, the Addicks couldn't steal a winner.

Cardiff are now promoted, the last time being so long distant the clubs ground lacked floodlights, having spent a couple of years in the top division from 1960, the club were destined to languish in the lower leagues until now. A new ground, highly devisive and controversial rebranding from blue to red shirts by a new a foreign owner and huge debt have coincided with a successful campaign to reach the top level once more. Remarkably this is their first period where rival South Wales club and part fan owned Swansea City also occupy similar status. As commented by ex Charlton play off final last night on 5 Live, with no love lost between the rival fans that should make some interesting matches for policing. Given Cardiff fans somewhat rugged reputation some other matches may be interesting too from that perspective, and a real shame they couldn't have done it without all the nonsense of shirt colours and badge changes. But seriously we hope Cardiff enjoy the Premiership, and look forward to replacing them next season..

So back to Charlton and the relegation/promotion struggle in the Championship. Calculators ready. My maths were a little bit up the spout last time so hopefull now corrected I can have another crack at this..

So nailing colours to mast on this one - with 3 games and 9 points remaining if Charlton draw against Wolves who are on equal points to Huddersfield on Saturday they are safe from relegation, and 6 points available. Although since clubs below us have to play each other, we may already be safe!

Looking upwards, on Saturday we entertain Wolves who are just above the relegation zone but level on points with Huddersfield so it should be an intense encounter. The Addicks then travel to 'Boro, and return to play Bristol City.

9 out of 9 would see Charlton knocking on the playoff door assuming results went their way however methinks 4-6 out of 9 is more realistic, so I think we'll have to wait another year to see if we can reach that level.
