Official: Charlton in Takeover Talks with Belgian Liege owner

Michael Slater today admitted Charlton were in talks with potential new owners on the Official Charlton web site

The news broke last night on the Daily Mail website, and was followed the next day by a statement on the official site giving weight to a possible deal in the offing with Belgian club owner Roland Duchâtelet in the frame.

Football fans will not need reminding that this comes at a critical stage just before the transfer window opens which could allow Chris Powell to strengthen his squad which is arguably a little thin outside the first 11 or so players - and has been exposed by a recent injury crisis. There is also an unresolved question of contract expiry for key players and Powell himself at the end of the season to address.

The deal is not confirmed as completed however, and we await further news on this, and any subsequent statement from new owners should the deal finally be sealed.

The most important thing at present must surely be ensuring Championship status however, and a busy Christmas period may give an indicator of that, and what positions may need strengthening if possible.
