Nearly the end of a very eventful month in the life of Charlton fans
It is something that many Addicks fans didn’t think they would ever witness and should go down in Charlton folk-law. I am referring to Charlton’s two FA Cup victories in the same week.
It all started on Tuesday night with a 3 – 0 away win at Oxfords Kassam stadium and was added to with an unexpected 1 – 0 victory at Huddersfield’s John Smiths Stadium on Saturday. While many Addicks fans would have been eagerly watching the fifth round draw hoping for a lucrative away trip to the Emirates or Anfield it came as no surprise when we were drawn away at Hillsborough. As the groans rang out across South East London, realistically this is a very winnable tie, with a galvanising factor and big financial gain coming from a prolonged cup run, it may be a distraction or an attraction for CAFC.
Chris Powell rested a number of players over the two legs with Richard Wood and Jordan Cousins left out against Oxford and Huddersfield and Yann Kermorgant sitting out the Huddersfield game, and hopefully some of them will be fit and ready to resume the League campaign until the 5th round on the weekend of February 15th.
I would expect to see the return of Kermorgant and Cousins to the team to face Doncaster, Richard Wood may be out with a knock or be out of contention following good performances by Dorian Dervite in the FA Cup. Rhoys Wiggins serves the last of his three match suspension and Astrit Ajdarević could feature after a solid performance at the John Smiths Stadium.
Doncaster have shown indifferent form recently, but with the return of Billy Sharp and Chris Brown starting to score goals it could be a tough match for the addicts. My prediction: Hard fought 1-1 draw.
