Many Charlton supporters will be setting out on April 8th to walk from Sparrows Lane to The Valley in support of The Upbeats. At the same time a group of Southend supporters will also be taking to the streets. We have received the following message from The Shrimpers Trust:
"As part of Southend United Supporters Society's charity fund raising activities I wanted to give you the heads up that on Saturday 8th April 2017, eight Trust members/supporters together with Southend United's Commercial Director, Danny Macklin will be walking the 35.7 miles to the away game between Southend United and Charlton Athletic, to raise funds for the Trust and Little Havens Children's Hospice.
As general background regarding ourselves, the Southend United Supporters Society (The Shrimpers Trust) is the largest supporters' group within the Club. Through supporter membership and fund raising we provide sponsorship to Southend United's Youth department and will also donate money for other worthwhile causes in and around the Club. We see Southend United Football Club as being an important part of our town and surrounding area. As part of our role in the local community we have signed up for the charity trek on the 8th.
We will be setting off from Roots Hall Football Stadium at the ridiculous hour of 12.01am. Our ETA at Charlton (to be confirmed) will be around 1pm.
Our charity partners are Essex based Little Havens Hospice, who provide care to local children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life limiting or life threatening conditions. Through its support groups it also provides essential services to parents and siblings to help them through such difficult times. Residential and community services extend across the county of Essex, including respite and end-of-life care.
Through the Trust's fund raising efforts we want to contribute to the Hospice's work in enabling them to continue to provide the highest quality palliative care services to those impacted in our local community.
Further information regarding the Trust and "Amble to the Addicks" can be found on our Trust website www.shrimperstrust.co.uk .
I know that on 8th April Charlton Community Trust are organising a short walk in support of Upbeats Day 2017. Therefore our own walk should sit well here with both sets of supporters thereby doing something for the local community."
