During a demonstration led by Charlton fans last week at the EFL offices in London the EFL Chief Executive Shaun Harvey undertook to contact Roland Duchatelet directly.
The outcome appears to be that Duchatelet has changed his mind about attending the meeting that the EFL set up with the club two weeks ago. A club statement says:
CAST welcomes the fact that Duchatelet has agreed to attend the meeting. Given the state of affairs at our club we think that it would be very remiss of him not to do so. It is disappointing, however, that it apparently needed the EFL to put pressure on him to persuade him to view the meeting as important enough to warrant his presence.
We note that the club statement includes the following:
"It should be noted that the lack of progress in any change of control at the club is not as a result of the parties waiting for the EFL to process the necessary documentation."
This statement is in line with information previously given by Duchatelet's representative Lieven de Turck who stressed at the Fans Forum that the Australian consortium were still to submit some documentation. We assume that the EFL have asked for it to be spelt out to avoid the misconception that they are in some way to blame for the stalling of any deal.
