CAST will be staffing the Greenwich Foodbank van again on Saturday in the main car park from 2pm.
We are very grateful to all the people who arrived on Tuesday evening laden with food and toiletries. The donations have already been unloaded at the Foodbank depot and will soon be distributed around the borough. Some people donated cash which will be quickly used to purchased urgently needed supplies.
We have traditionally held our collection in the run up to Christmas and we hope to do so again this year. However the urgency of the current situation means that we are asking Charlton fans to show their legendary generosity a bit earlier this time. Everyone will be aware of the acute financial pressures already being experienced by many in our community. The long school holidays and the October increase in energy prices will soon bring things to a crisis point. Some people will have to choose between eating and heating. Our local foodbank will be doing all it can to alleviate the hardship but all over the country foodbank supplies are running low.
Greenwich Foodbank Operations Manager Kathy Byfield said that:
"Any non-perishable goods will be gratefully received but, in particular we are currently short of:
- Canned Meat (eg Corned beef, hot dogs, meatballs etc)
- Chocolate and packets of sweets
- Canned Rice Pudding
- Condiments (eg Ketchup, Brown Sauce, salt, pepper, Mayo etc)
- Hot Chocolate
- Canned Soup (all variety of flavours)
- Toiletries ( eg Shower Gel, Shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste)"
