Fill the foodbank van on Saturday

CAST will be staffing the Greenwich Foodbank van in the main car park before the Leyton Orient game on Saturday (from 1.45pm)

Everyone will be aware of the acute financial pressures being experienced by many in our community. The long school holidays and the continuing high price of energy and many foodstuffs will soon bring things to a crisis point for many families. Our local foodbank will be doing all it can to alleviate the hardship but all over the country foodbank supplies are running low.

Greenwich Foodbank Operations Manager Kathy Byfield said that:

"So far this year 10,602 people have used our service compared to 5,910 for the same period last year and we have used 120,084kg of stock compared to 75,776kg last year (63% increase). We know with the winter months approaching that these figures will increase and partnering with Charlton Athletics FC and CAST is a great opportunity to support us in meeting the demand for our service."

Any non-perishable goods will be gratefully received but, in particular Greenwich Foodbank is currently short of:

  •  Fruit juice (1 litre carton, long life)
  •  Tinned meat
  •  Tinned veg (carrots, potatoes)
  •  Sugar (1kg)
  •  Instant potato
  •  Squash
  •  Toiletries ( eg Shower Gel, Shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste)"
