Government confirms commitment to independent regulator

The Government published its response to the consultation on the Football Governance White Paper on September 7th

The response makes clear the Government is sticking by its commitment to an indepedent regulator in the game – the case for reform is strong and legislation will be brought forward “when Parliamentary time allows”.

The document, titled A Sustainable Future – Reforming Club Football Governance, says that “football has failed to adequately resolve these issues itself, which is why statutory regulatory intervention is required”.

A commitment to legislation is expected in November’s King’s Speech. However, the phrase "when Parliamentary time allows" doesn't exactly inspire great confidence.
