As a result of Harry Isted's injury goalkeeper Sam Walker (32) has joined Charlton on a short term contract until January.
Technical Director Andy Scott has said that the Gravesend born six foot six keeper "will push Ash for the first team shirt while Harry is recovering from his injury and then compete with them both."
Chelsea signed Walker from Millwall as a fifteen year old in 2007 and he was to remain at Chelsea for seven years without ever breaking into the first team. He had loan spells at Barnet, Northampton, Yeovil, Bristol Rovers and Colchester before signing for Colchester in January 2014. He made 155 appearances for them over the next four seasons but left to jump up two levels to Championship Reading in 2018.
He didn't break through at Reading where in three seasons he played only seven League games before loan spells in 20/21 at Blackpool (two games) and Wimbledon (twelve games). He then went north to Kilmarnock where he played once in 21/22. This meant that in four years he had played only twenty two League games. However, last season he made 28 appearances for the Scottish Premiership club.
The CAFC website notes that the deal is subject to international clearance.
