Conor Coventry is a 23 year old midfielder who has joined on a three and a half year contract from West Ham just in time to be included in this bulletin.
Although his appearances for West Ham are few (ten in total) he has had loan experience at Lincoln (under Michael Appleton) and Milton Keynes in League One plus Peterborough and Rotherham in The Championship.
He has 25 caps at under 21 level for Ireland and has captained the team. He was called into the senior squad in 2021 although he didn't make an appearance. Comparisons with Josh Cullen are inevitable.
Michael Appleton commented: "I'm delighted we've been able to sign Conor. He's someone that quite a few years ago I took on his very first loan at Lincoln. To be able to be reunited with him on a permanent deal I'm delighted with. He's very, very comfortable on the ball and knows his position really well. He's a good passer of the ball, with good technique, and he's got a steeliness to him as well which I like - a bit of nastiness to him. He's one who lives his life right and is a proper professional."
Most Charlton fans will be disappointed if George Dobson leaves the club this month but, if so, the arrival of Conor should go some way to softening the blow.
