Camden-born Tyreeq Bakinson is a midfielder who has joined on loan from Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season.
He is twenty five years old, six foot three tall and has 143 league appearances of which 55 were at Championship level. He should therefore be able to strengthen a team which has been criticised for being too young, short of experience and lacking a physical presence.
He didn't manage to break through at Luton so he signed for Bristol City as a nineteen year old in 2017. After loan spells with League Two Newport and Plymouth he made his Bristol debut three years later and established himself in their Championship team (34 appearances and four goals in 2020/21). However, in January 2022 he was loaned to League One Ipswich and he subsequently signed for Sheffield Wednesday in August 2022 where he played a considerable part (26 games) in their promotion. He has played a further eight Championship games this season.
His record implies that he is in the category of player described by Jim Rodwell in Wednesday's on-line meeting with fans as "Elite League One" - a player that any League One club would want and who can make the leap to The Championship.
He has scored eleven League goals in his career and the last two were against Charlton. On the final day of the 21/22 season he scored the first Ipswich goal as they routed us 4-0. In the third game of the following season it was he who headed the winner at Hillsborough in a game that we never should have lost. He has scored at least one goal in all of the last five seasons so he should be due one in the next four months.
