Who is Gassan Ahadme ?

New signings continue to arrive thick and fast as Nathan Jones seeks to fulfil his ambition of having his squad ready in time for pre season.

Gassan Ahadme is a  twenty three year old six foot three striker who arrives from Ipswich for "an undisclosed fee".

Although he has represented Morocco at youth level, he was born in Spain and came to this country as a nineteen year old when he signed for Norwich in 2019. He didn't make any league appearances for The Canaries and was loaned to Real Oviedo "B" team and to Portsmouth playing a handful of games for each but failing to score.

In January 2022 he joined Burton Albion where he found his feet and, by the following September, his six goals in twenty appearances were enough to persuade Ipswich to offer him a three year contract. However, after six games and no goals he found himself back at Burton on loan four months later. Last season Ipswich loaned him to Cambridge where he made 29 appearances and scored eleven goals.

Overall, he arrives with experience of playing in 67 League One games and scoring 18 goals. This compares with Miles Leaburn (48 games, 15 goals) and Daniel Kanu (42 games, 6 goals).

Nathan Jones is delighted:

“I’m delighted we’ve signed Gassan, he was a real number one target for us. Like with the signing of Matty Godden, it has been a long process - we’ve been pursuing him all summer. We’re delighted to add him, he brings us quality, and a presence and profile of a number nine. His arrival continues the recruitment process that we want with a focus on being categorically stronger as a squad coming out of the transfer window. The two strikers we’ve signed have real pedigree and I’d like to thank the Board and the ownership for backing us on these signings. Our squad has significantly improved already this summer and we haven’t finished our recruitment.”

Charlton fans will be hoping that Gassan can match the achievements of previous signings from Ipswich like Darren Bent, Matt Holland and Herman Hreidarsson rather than the disappointing recent contributions of Panutche Kamara and Freddie Ladapo.
