Greg Docherty is a 27 year old midfielder who has joined us on a three year deal on the expiry of his contract with Hull City.
He began his career with Hamilton Academical as a nine year old in 2005. He progressed through the Academy and finally made his debut for the club in 2013. He played 91 games for The Accies in The Scottish Premiership before gaining a four and a half year contract with Glasgow Rangers in January 2018.
Although this was no doubt a dream move he was only to make eleven appearances for Rangers in his two and a half year stay at the club. He was loaned in August 2018 to League One Shrewsbury where he made 41 league appearances (7 goals) and was voted player of the year. In January 2020 he was loaned to Hibs where he made six Scottish Premiership appearances.
He joined Hull City in August 2020 and played a significant part in their promotion from League One the following May - playing 44 league games and scoring 5 goals. He established himself in Hull's Championship side over the next two seasons with a further 75 appearances but last season only got on the pitch fifteen times.
In total he brings experience of 108 Scottish Premiership games and 90 English Championship games.
Nathan Jones is very pleased indeed: “He’s someone that we’re really thrilled to have acquired, again we’ve had to beat off a lot of opposition for his signature. He’ll add real competition, real strength, real leadership qualities to the team and there is big scope for him to develop and move forward with us.”
Technical Director Andy Scott added: “Greg is a player who we have had a strong interest in since we came to the club and the fact that we have managed to secure his signature with the options he had is really pleasing. He’s a player with lots of different qualities and is ideally suited to Nathan’s style. We’ve all worked very hard to get this over the line and Greg adds another very strong midfield option, bringing quality on the ball, tenacity, leadership, outstanding professionalism and game understanding to the group."
