What does The Valley mean to you?

Stadium photographer David Shields has asked for our assistance in publishing a book of photographs of The Valley that he is planning to publish in December.

The photos will be augmented by quotations about what the stadium means to people. Dave plans to interview players, former players and staff and he has asked us to approach supporters for their thoughts.

If you would be interested in contributing to the book please answer the question: "What does The Valley mean to me?" in a maximum of about eighty words and send your paragraph to secretary@castrust.org with your full name (which will be published unless you specifically ask for it not to be).

Here is an example from a previous book Dave produced about Roots Hall, Southend:

"I first came to Roots Hall when I was about fourteen. I don't remember the game. I don't remember the score, but I do remember the feeling. Stood in the North Bank and then in the West. It is a Shrimper's shrine and I make the pilgrimage as often as I can. Roots Hall is frustration, excitement, disappointment and exhilaration. Long live the mighty, if a bit battered, Roots Hall"

However, please don't feel that you need to follow this format or use a similar trend of thought. Just put into words what The Valley means to you.

Of course we can't guarantee that your contribution will make the final cut. The editorial decision will be made by Dave once he has reviewed all your thoughts, feelings and memories. However, we hope to be able to use all contributions in our own celebration of The Valley after the book is published.
