Long trip North for the Women

Charlton make the long trip to Sunderland this weekend to round off a busy March.

Karen Hills’s side will have played five matches this month and will be looking to finish it unbeaten following a draw against Birmingham City last time out.

That draw probably put paid to The Addicks’ promotion hopes but that doesn’t mean the team are on the beach. Although unlikely, there is still a mathematical possibility of promotion and Charlton need to be ready to pounce.

Last weekend’s match at The Valley against leaders Birmingham was certainly a tale of two halves, with the visitors strong to begin with and the home side finishing the better. The Addicks had chances to steal a late victory but, as at St Andrews earlier in the season, just couldn’t convert a spell of pressure into a winning goal.

Sunderland were defeated in the Tyne-Wear derby last weekend in front of a Championship record 38,502 crowd at St James Park. The Black Cats have had an up and down season and find themselves sat firmly mid table.

Karen Hills will be confident that her side will come out on top but will be hoping that Brazil and Barton remember to pack their shooting boots. When the two teams met at The Valley in October Karin Muya scored twice in the last ten minutes to rescue a 3-3 draw.
