RB Greenwich has this week published draft proposals ("Sustainable Streets") which, among other measures, extend parking restrictions into streets currently freely available for match day parking.
CAST is in contact with the club about this and we hope to be able to work with club staff to mitigate the effects of the proposals on fans who want to get to The Valley but for whom public transport, cycling or walking isn't feasible. We would be very interested to hear your thoughts, ideas and suggestions for how travel might be facilitated. Please write to secretary@castrust.org
In most streets within easy walking distance of The Valley parking at present is limited Monday to Saturday between 9am and 6.30pm to two hours for those without a resident parking permit. However, fans have usually been able to locate unrestricted parking spaces on (for example) Thorntree Road and Kinveachy Gardens or the roads to the south of Charlton Park such as Canberra Road and Charlton Park Lane or some streets north of Woolwich Road. It would appear that, if the proposals are adopted, many of such spaces would be limited to two hours for non-residents which would render them unsuitable for those attending The Valley for daytime games. Some spaces on such roads would appear to be available via pay-by-phone but it is not immediately clear how many and we have asked RB Greenwich for clarification.
You have an opportunity to comment on the proposals via the link below. You will be able to look at maps of specific streets and see how they will be affected by the proposals. We found this a somewhat daunting task as the volume of information is overwhelming and some of the terminology is confusing. However, a strong coffee and the determination to approach the task systematically and patiently does reap rewards.
We encourage all fans to comment on the proposals. You don't have to be a resident of RB Greenwich to comment here:
