Tasty local derby to start the season

Charlton Women's Super League 2 season kicks off with a bang this Sunday as Crystal Palace come to The Valley for a 2pm kick off. Relegated last season from the WSL they will be under pressure to perform and Karen Hills will hope her side can expose any mental fragility.

The visitors appointed Jo Potter as head coach following their disastrous stint in the top flight last season. Potter is no stranger to Charlton, having played for the Addicks between 2005 and 2007. Her only previous managerial role was north of the border, where she led Rangers to two successive cup doubles.

Having penned a new deal this August Karen Hills will once again be in the dug out in SE7 but her squad is much changed. Ten players have left with eight new signings arriving. In addition Professional Game Academy player Frankie Finlayson has made the step up to the first team squad. Amalie Thestrup appears to be the most exciting new signing and fans will be hoping she can fill the gap left by Ellie Brazil.

The WSL 2 is going to be fiercely competitive this season. More promotion spots means more desperation to reach the top. Charlton have been competitive in recent seasons but must grab this opportunity to reach the WSL.

Palace are likely to be one of the frontrunners in the promotion race so the result of this game could play a big part in deciding the outcome next April. The home squad will welcome your backing and this is an attractive fixture with a number of new signings to admire so why not fill the Charlton gap in your life this weekend by getting down to The Valley?

Season tickets are still available. An adult ticket costs only £65 and includes free entry to League Cup games and 50% off FA Cup games.

Tickets for this weekend's clash are priced at £7 for adults and £2 for under 18’s.
