Greenwich Foodbank says thankyou for record donations

The generosity of Charlton fans was in evidence once again last Saturday.

When the Foodbank van was unloaded on Monday morning the donations made by supporters at the Oxford game were weighed in at 261 kilos. This translates into about 285 meals for people who are struggling in our community at the moment and it trumps by 10 kilos the 251 kilos donated last year which was itself a record amount.

In addition just over £1000 was raised in cash and card donations which is more than double what was raised last year. This excludes any donations which supporters who were not at the game might have made directly to the Foodbank account.

Greenwich Foodbank fundraiser Charlie Belbin said: "Many, many thanks for the support of Charlton Athletic, CAST and Charlton fans. It is hugely appreciated. And a nice three points to top it off!"

The cost of food and essential items continues to rise. Right now, Greenwich Foodbank is spending an average of £14,841 per month – more than ever before – to provide and deliver food for local people experiencing food insecurity. This amount includes food expenditure and the direct costs of running, insuring and fuelling the delivery vans.

If you missed the appeal you can still make a donation to the Foodbank's winter appeal here:
