Women need to stop Annie

Following a false start last weekend, Charlton Athletic Women are finally back in action this Sunday (2pm kick off).

Swindon Town come to The Valley as FA Cup fever returns for the second successive weekend. The Robins ply their trade in the FA Women’s National League Division One South which is the fourth tier of the women’s game. They sit second in the division with three games in hand over table toppers Moneyfields.

While Charlton reached the fourth round by seeing off Watford last month the visitors have had to come through four ties. They have beaten Plympton Ladies 8-1, Dulwich Hamlet Women 1-0, Oxford City Women 3-0 and Leafield Athletic Ladies 3-2. There will be much interest in their captain and top goal scorer Annie Colston who has scored 28 goals already this season to add to her 99 in 103 appearances across the previous four seasons. Amazingly, she has scored three hat tricks in her team's four FA Cup ties so far.

Charlton, as you won’t need to be reminded, are top of the WSL 2 and are hoping to be promoted to the top tier at the beginning of May. Karen Hills has strengthened her squad by bringing Katie Lockwood and Lizzie Waldie in from Scottish teams Glasgow City and Hearts respectively. The FA Cup provides the perfect opportunity to allow the new signings to bed in and to build some match fitness for the rest of the squad who haven’t kicked a ball in anger since the 21st of December.

This weekend’s fixture will not be streamed and so the only way to catch all the action is to come down to The Valley and get behind the team. Tickets are priced at just £7 for adults, with season ticket holders getting their tickets for free.
