Up for cup this Easter?
Why not come down to The Valley this Sunday (2.30pm kick off) to help push Charlton into the semi-finals?
WSL side Liverpool are in town for what promises to be an intriguing FA Cup quarter final. Since the draw was made The Reds have been in impressive form and are now practically safe from the indignity of having to play the promotion/relegation Play Off. A big January window seems to have fixed issues for Gareth Taylor’s side.
They set up in a 4-3-3 and will be expecting to have the vast majority of possession. Although not high scorers in the league, they have scored eleven goals in three League Cup matches against WSL2 opposition. Although Charlton's defence is not looking as tight as it was earlier in the season it is still the meanest in the division so the match is set up for an interesting battle.
Charlton will be coming into the game on with a point to prove following Sunday's defeat by Crystal Palace. Karen Hills will want to see how her side perform against WSL opposition and the players will want to prove to their manager that they can handle the step up. Previous FA Cup ties have seen rotated squads but that seems unlikely on Sunday. Back-up keeper Anna Pederson might get to play but that conversation with Sophie Whitehouse might be a tricky one for Hills.
We have great history in the Cup, Hills won it for us as a player in 2005 and reaching the semi finals would make a trip to Wembley tantalisingly close. However, most Charlton supporters would happily trade in a headline-grabbing win on Sunday for a lucky 1-0 steal at Southampton on April 26th. By the time that game kicks off Charlton are likely to have lost top spot to Birmingham and be just three points ahead of Palace.
A bumper crowd would help lift the team on Sunday (NB 2.30pm kick off) and it would be great to see the largest attendance of the season.
Adult tickets are just £10 and under 18’s are £2 and can be purchased here:
