The Addicks make the trip to Goodison Park this Sunday (2pm) to take on Everton in what already feels like a relegation six pointer.
Last weekend Liverpool proved too strong for Karen Hill’s Charlton side so we hope the other Merseyside team are a bit meeker. The Toffees finished solidly in mid table last season but lost four out of their last five fixtures, just scraping a win against relegated Leicester City. Last week they lost to the stripes lot in Surrey, only registering their first shot on target in the 94th minute. That said, Charlton didn’t manage a single shot on target against Liverpool.
Everton dominated possession at the weekend and will do the same against the Addicks. Charlton struggled to get out of their own half and really need to show an improvement. Playing Jodie Hutton and Leah Davidson up front was a waste of their talents and served only to tire them out. Both players would be more useful playing in the midfield, with Hutton on the wing and Davidson beefing up the middle. Lorena Azzaro didn’t make much of a difference off the bench but wasn’t given much of a chance. Paula Partido looked a good outlet on the right wing but didn’t have anyone in the middle to target.
Usually when a team ship four goals fingers get pointed at the defence but they were generally solid, if a bit slow to react. In open play Liverpool struggled to create opportunities in the first half and needed a bit of luck and some slow reactions to get their noses ahead. If Charlton can stay as solid against Everton then a point is possible and Hills's defensive options have been strengthened by the arrivals of Leighanne Robe who has WSL experience with Liverpool and Hawa Cissoko (pictured) who had four years at West Ham.
If the team can show some more attacking intent, three points isn’t out of the question.
