Charlton couldn't withstand the quality of Blackburn today, but are they in serious danger of the drop still?
Sordell was both hero and villain as he earned and then missed a pen, but he scored a cracker at the other end. Worryingly but not surprisingly Charlton looked tired. The Reds play confirmed mid-table Watford on Tuesday night at the Valley, and will hope to have a point before travelling to Blackpool on Saturday.
The win against Sheffield Wednesday may prove huge for Charlton if no more points are forthcoming. Only wins from all three teams below - Millwall, Doncaster and Birmingham - would see them in trouble, assuming the Addicks can minimise goals conceded, it's still possible however. Blackpool are in a similar boat, and of course they have to play Charlton.
(Thanks for your corrections and comments so far)
Today's games leave the bottom half of the table as follows:
18th 46 pts – Blackpool: Charlton (h) GD-25
19th 45 pts – Charlton: Watford (h), Blackpool (a) GD -25
20th 45pts – Millwall: Bournemouth (a) GD -29
21st 44 pts – Doncaster: Leicester (a) GD -30
--------
22nd 43 pts – Birmingham: Wigan (h), Bolton (a) GD -15
23rd 39 pts – Barnsley: QPR (h)
24th 37 pts – Yeovil: Boro (h)
Back of a fag packet prediction -
Its still to play for but this is my guestimate
18th Blackpool 49 (look safe)
19th Charlton 46 (a draw or maybe two needed, Blackpool and Charlton's positions may change as they play each other, Watford have nothing to play for now)
20th Millwall 45 (unlikely to get points at Bournemouth but they missed the playoffs so who knows)
21st Birmingham 44 (unlikely to get points against Wigan who are still in the hunt for the playoffs, or Bolton who will finish mid-table, they look in trouble, but you never know Doncaster's plight may save them)
--------
22nd Doncaster 44 (Have arguably the tougher job though against Leicester away, who will want to finish on a high and are cruising)
23rd Barnsley 39
24th Yeovil 37
